Engineering firms across French-speaking Africa build their studies on global scientific datasets calibrated against reference stations located mostly in North America and Europe.
Alternatives exist, but they are scattered: a national weather station here, a one-off study there, a university thesis somewhere else. No single source brings them together or keeps them current at the local scale.
That dependency shapes sizing decisions, funders' assumptions and project economics. The result is an energy map of Africa drawn from the outside.
A sizing decision is only as good as the data that feeds it.
When that data is poorly calibrated for the site, its error propagates into funders' assumptions and project economics.
The mission of Kuma Science is to fix that error at the source: build, maintain and publish the local reference dataset those decisions deserve.

The portal is built to the same standard: stated assumptions, referenced formulas, uncertainty quantified locality by locality, and dated releases that funders and researchers can cite and verify years later.
This know-how is open by design: the data engine is free software, the reference dataset carries an open license, and both bear permanent identifiers that lead back to the source.
